WHAT IS A PHOBIA?

A phobia is an irrational fear.  An irrational fear of maybe an object or situation where most others would not be troubled or concerned or have an altered state.  Some phobias are more common than others, for example, a fear of spiders, a fear of heights and then there are the no so common ones like a fear of clowns or balloons.

Health Anxiety

My experience of working with phobias has taught me that these often start in childhood and that a spider may not be at all relevant to the experience but that somehow the person has objectified something that looks fearful to them.  Object relations is something that runs deeper than deep and I could talk about this all day as part of my therapeutic training and experience.  However, if you are looking to just get help with your irrational fear then please know that you can unlearn the development of the fear and manage your irrational fear/s better.

Irrational fears, albeit irrational, are real for the person and produce a state of panic and suffering when confronted with the object or situation.  Breathing can be effected, pulse rate, heart rate, sweating and more – so the fear is real for the person – albeit irrational.

You can learn what methods I use to combat irrational fears by giving me a call to discuss.  I look forward to hearing from you.  There are more images of my Practice below:
